Fiordo di Crapolla

The Fiordo di Crapolla is one of the most extreme beach experiences near the Amalfi Coast — a secret fjord reached by 700 stone steps that descend from the hamlet of Torca through ancient terraces to a narrow rocky inlet between towering cliff walls. At the bottom, the ruins of a 10th-century abbey (San Pietro) and Roman fish ponds hint at millennia of human presence. There is no sand — you swim from the rocks into deep, transparent water. The gorge is narrow enough that the sun disappears by mid-afternoon. Zero facilities, zero people most days, zero compromise. The climb back up is genuinely brutal and takes 45-60 minutes. Only attempt this if you are fit and prepared.

Drive to Torca (hamlet above Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi). Limited roadside parking. No public transport to the trailhead.

Start early (before 9 AM) to enjoy the sun in the fjord before it disappears. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person — the climb back in the heat is no joke. The abbey ruins at the bottom are fascinating and rarely mentioned in guidebooks. Not recommended after rain (slippery steps).
